Orlando SSI And SSDI Lawyer
Both Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) have a two-part test that claimants must pass to receive benefits. Although the vast majority of claimants are rejected at the initial stages of application to both, there are unique and important differences between the two types of benefits.
SSI is a need-based program, and in order to receive benefits, claimants must fall under a certain threshold for assets or income. In addition, if a claimant lives with family or other individuals who contribute economically to the claimant’s household, that can have an effect on SSI benefits. According to the Social Security Administration website:
The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program pays benefits to disabled adults and children who have limited income and resources.
In contrast, the Social Security Administration states that:
Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) pays benefits to you and certain members of your family if you are “insured,” meaning that you worked long enough and paid Social Security taxes.
Obtaining insured status means having worked for five of the last 10 years and having paid enough into the system, which comes down to a calculation of lifetime earnings.
It is important to realize that claimants who partner with a skilled lawyer are twice as likely to obtain benefits than claimants who do not.
